Catanzaro is located in the southern Italian region of Calabria and build on a rock looking down into the Fiumarella Valley. The city is famous for its Catanzaro Bridge which connects the different parts of the region and is one of the tallest bridges in Europe. Driving over the Catanzaro Bridge can be quite an experience as traffic often gets stuck and people get out of their vehicle's to kill the time. Driving up to Catanzaro you'll look down into the Gulf of Squillace which is part of the Ionian Sea. On the left of the bridge there is the Fiumarella Valley. The road as it is was scary enough but then it started raining too which really made we want to get up that hill and out of the car as quick as possible. The locals in Catanzaro don't seem to be bothered too much by the height of the bridge and even parked their cars in the midle to walk up into town. Catanzaro has a nice historic centre with the main centre on the Piazza del Duomo. Other attractions are the Basilica dell'Immacolata, the churches of Santissimo Rosario and Sant'omobono, the remains of the medieval town walls and Palazzo Nobile which functions as the city town hall.
