Hotel Description
Relax and enjoy the wonderful space and ambience of this historic Inn as you unwind and rest from your journey. The Inn is decorated in the style of a rustic French countryside hotel, with all the modern conveniences you require. The Globe Inn was built by Charles Quail, quoted as being a fine establishment boasting bars, billiard room, ballroom, large garden well and stabling for some 30 horse. The Inn had a diverse history; many auctions of horses, drays and other goods were held on the premises. The Theatre Royal was housed in the large vaulted ceiling ballroom on the upper floor of the Inn, and there is much documentation in the Yass Courier relating to the events that were held in the theatre. A special night was hosted to celebrate the marriage of the Prince of Wales and Princess Alexandria with a Grand Display of Fireworks and General Illumination and the release of fire balloons in search of the stars from the courthouse on June 11th 1863. The Globe Inn remained licensed until the late 1800's, since that time it has followed many paths, but fortunately has retained much of its wonderful ambience and original Georgian features and, like Hamilton Hume s home, Cooma Cottage, on the outskirts of Yass, it is a fine example of the Australian Georgian architecture of that period. . The Globe Inn is a beautiful National Trust listed Georgian building, circa 1847 in the heart of the historic township of Yass in the Southern Tablelands of NSW Hotel Facilities: Hotel Price: |
