A lot of backpackers road tripping through Western Australia find it hard to find a good paid job but Carnarvon must be the exception here because of its depeveloped agricultural industry. Fruit picking jobs are really popular in Australia and where better to start looking than in a thriving fruit city like Carnarvon? Carnarvon is also good connected to other touristic points in Western Australia like Broome, Exmouth, Coral Bay and Geraldton in the north and Perth in the south. Just hop on the Greyhound night bus and you'll be dropped off right in town. Driving through Carnarvon by car or van you'll notice just how many farms and fruit fields you come accross. Do not that some are used to having backpackers around asking for fruit picking jobs and put a sign on their field letting you know they aren't looking for extra staff. The fruit and vegetables grown in Carnarvon mainly consist in bananas, tomatoes and oranges but you will also find cattle farms looking for young people eager to work. Carnarvon is also a good base to settle down if you want to visit the Shark Bay World Heritage Area nearby. Shark Bay is located on the most far western point of Australia and home to some amazing wildlife and natural wonders like the stromatolites of Hamlin Pool. These rock like formations actually are considered the worlds oldest organisms that are still alive and very carefully protected here in Shark Bay. Wildlife include the famous dugong, the rare seagrass eating sea elephant, and the bottle nose dolphin.
