For New Years Eve we headed to Ko Phi Phi by boat from Phuket. Arriving on the popular island the place was filled with tourists who easily outnumbered the locals. The beach upon arrival didn't looked to pretty and I'd expected way to much of Ko Phi Phi. There are some awesome beaches around Phi Phi like the o so famous bay of the movie The Beach but unfortunatley a lot of that original beauty has been wasted by the booming tourism business. The bays are filled with tour boats and I couldn't believe how many plastic bags, sigarettes and other garbage had winded up on the beach! The waters are still very beautiful and do have these amazing greenish crystal clear lagoon look. Too bad our tour guide didnt let us get off here! On Ko Phi Phi main land the biggest thing around is party, party and party and I never saw so many fellow English backpackers making our country look even worse..At night the place turned into some kind of Little Ibiza with people dancing on the tables and running through the streets and on the beaches. I can only imagine who much the locals must hate this side effect of the touristic business. Of course the Thai massage salon was full 8 out of 10 times and the local pancakes with nutella stand was doing business like never before but that Ko Phi Phi I knew from the brochures had gone a little bit to waste. We stayed on the island to celebrate New Years Eve which turned into an out of control beach party all over the island. We had an awesome time with great fire works, bare footed dancing in the open air night clubs and walking through all the lit up market stands. I'll spare you the detaills about how the place looked the day after! Just let me tell you it started raining the next day and the Ko Phi Phi sewer system is close to non existing which caused all the garbage and other dirty stuff..to spread a very unpleasant smell over the island. A bit groce. After a last Thai massage this seemed to be our last signal telling us to get off this island so we headed for Ao Nang.
