The mountainous area of western Lesotho might not seem the ordinary travel destination but somehow I managed to spend the last three months of my life living in definately the most primitive place I have ever visited. The village where I stayed during my volunteer work in Lesotho is called Nazareth and is located near the capital city of Maseru close to the border between Lesotho and South Africa. Just knowing that Nazareth is placed west from a mountain range called the God Help Me Pass will prepare you for whatever struggle you might face during your time here, that is of course if you're planning on doing volunteer work in this part of Lesotho. Through Peace Corps Volunteers I got accepted for the volunteer program and was assigned to the education area. There are different areas which you can choose or are qualified to work in all depending on your educational background and personal interests. It was my job to integrate an active form of HIV/AIDS education into the life of the children of Nazareth and doing so by not only explaining and educating but also by organizing activities and a playful approach. So eventhough the standards of living and the cultural differences were difficult the work was extremely rewarding and I think that I will do some more volunteer work in the future. Did you enjoy Volunteer Project in Lesotho and have you been on a holiday in Nazareth, Lesotho?
