Wow wat a beautiful place and without a doubt the most satisfying hike I have ever done! The Tongariro Alpine Crossing is the most popular track of the Tongariro National Park and lies right in the heart of New Zealand, that is the of the Northern Island of New Zealand. I had read about this crazy one day track from Otukou and my mates and I were all for it. For me the highlights of the whole Tongariro Crossing were the gorgeous lakes, what a beautiful colours and what a view.. Blue Lake and Emerald Lake are probably the best looking lakes on the hiking itinerary and the best thing to do is to climb up there with a hiking guide. In Erua we stayed at the The Crossing Backpackers & Erua Lodge which is probably the best backpackers I have ever stayed at. They had the perfect concept to meet other young travellers like ourselves and they had a great variety of fun activities to do while being there like crossing around in their off road buggies. Just google Erua Lodge or Crossing Backpackers and you'll find their site. Great place to stay. Did you enjoy Tongariro Crossing New Zealand and have you been on a holiday in Erua, New Zealand?
