Constanza - Center of Dominican Republic

Constanza is a city with history about which I would like to tell a little.

Some researchers have found out this valley in colonial times. One of colonists, Victoriano Velano, has brought the first cows and mares in 1750 which to 1783 have considerably extended, cheerfully breeding.

Now in Constanza there live approximately 90,000 inhabitants

There are some hotels of different level, restaurants, shops.

It is interesting to look at fields where grow an onions, cabbage, a potato. Here grow up vegetables for all country. The nature very much differs from that which we have got used to see at coast with palm trees and ocean.

When the British consul in Santo Domingo, Robert Schomburgk has visited Constance in 1851, he has found only one manned house.

Later 20 years, in 1871 North American geologist William Gabb has found out in a valley already 12 huts. In 1887 Barón de Eggers in one of the visits to the central Cordilleras has counted an order of 100 persons living in 30 huts, scattered in valley of Constanza.

To the XX-th century middle Constanza was a valley with very small amount of the population because absence it is expensive strongly complicated access to this place.

In report Barón de Eggers also wrote, that all families occupying Constance, there lived at the expense of cultivation of horses, horned livestock, culture of a string bean, yam, yuccas, corn and one more unusual plant which the Baron held back. And also, tobacco was the main commercial culture. From it twisted small cigars, successfully on sale in a city the Dignity Juan.
