From Queenstown we travelled north for a day trip to Lake Hawea which is also located within the Queenstown Lakes District and thus within the Otago Region of New Zealand's South Island. Like us most people visit Lake Hawea for the stunning landscapes and pleasant walks you can do here. Because Lake Hawea is located in a glacial valley you will see the white snow on the surrounding mountain peaks which is a beautiful contrast with the almost turqoise water of the lake. Lake Hawea has also become a popular touristic spot in wintertime when it turns into a ski resort for adventure seekers and nature lovers. In summertime the lake is perfect for swimming as well. Did you enjoy Lake Hawea New Zealand and have you been on a holiday in Lake Hawea, New Zealand?
